💛 I Should've Written You A Love Song 💛

I wrote this song after rereading a journal entry about a guy I knew. I dated him for a bit, but I felt confused as to whether or not he actually wanted to date me, and I wrote a bunch of different songs at the time... I wrote a song about how I should just move on. I wrote a song about how I wanted him to change. And eventually I convinced myself that he wasn't interested. But when I found this journal entry, I was surprised to read about a sweet conversation the two of us had, where he genuinely did seem to like me. It made me rethink the whole situation, and I started writing this song on my bedroom floor.

I felt like this song would be hard for people to relate to, because to me it sounded like "a song about a song," and it seemed way too specific. But I shared it on my YouTube page and it became my most popular original song. A old friend of mine even messaged me with an in-depth analysis of what the song meant to her. She said to her it reminded her of the times when we were younger and didn't yet have a clue.

In September, I happened to meet a director at one of my former professor's shabbot dinners. It was right around the time my YouTube had reached 10k subscribers, and I just had been granted access to the YouTube Space in LA. He asked what I would film there, and I said probably a music video. He said he had always wanted to direct a music video and offered to do it for free. Thus, a great collaboration was born! We met up later and bounced around some ideas for this song, but none of them quite seemed to fit. Then several days later my director had an epiphany and called me with this fantastic idea that was just the perfect story for this song!

It turns out music videos are not all that inexpensive to create, lol, so I did a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. I had done a campaign before and remember it being so stressful, but this time around, I actually had an audience on YouTube and Instagram. I just had to ask a few times, and people seemed happy to donate and were really generous. I feel so lucky that people have been willing to help me do what I want to do.

And now this amazing video has come into existence and I feel like I can be proud of it for the rest of my life! I also am amazed and somewhat amused that so many people came together and put in so much effort into this piece of art, when the initial event that inspired the song seemed rather normal and even a bit insignificant. But I also think that's part of the beauty of it all.
